From Invisible to Industry Leader: A 30-Day Brand Authority Case Study

How a professional services firm with zero editorial presence built a recognisable authority footprint in a single 30-day engagement โ€” and what the data showed at 90 days.

The following case study describes the results of a typical BrandVoice Engine campaign. Client details have been generalised to protect confidentiality, but the outcomes described are representative of campaigns in this category.

The Starting Point

A mid-size professional services firm โ€” 12 employees, 8 years in business, strong client retention, consistent revenue โ€” came to us with a problem they couldn't quite name.

Their existing clients loved them. Referrals were solid. But new client acquisition had plateaued, and they were watching a competitor with an objectively weaker service offering win pitches they should have won. The difference, when they dug into it: the competitor appeared everywhere. Articles, expert directories, editorial features, industry association content. When a prospect Googled either firm before a pitch meeting, the comparison was stark.

When they asked ChatGPT "who are the leading [service category] firms in [city]?", the competitor appeared. They did not.

Starting metrics at Day 0:

  • External editorial citations: 0
  • Schema.org implementation: Basic (homepage only, minimal fields)
  • Knowledge Panel: None
  • Named expert mentions (external): 1 (founder's LinkedIn only)
  • AI search mentions (tested across 6 tools): 0/6

Weeks 1โ€“2: Foundation and Content

Our first two weeks focused on infrastructure and content production.

Week 1 โ€” Schema and Entity Foundation: We built a complete Schema.org implementation: Organization, Person (founder + two senior staff), Service (three distinct services), FAQPage (8 questions). We audited and standardised their brand information across 24 existing external mentions (directory listings, review sites, professional associations). Many had inconsistent descriptions, outdated phone numbers, or missing service categories.

Week 2 โ€” Editorial Content Production: Our editorial team produced a flagship 1,600-word expert feature โ€” a genuinely useful, expert perspective piece on a topic at the intersection of their category and an emerging industry trend. Not a promotional article. Editorial content that could legitimately appear in a trade publication and provide real value to that publication's readers.

We also produced a 700-word expert profile featuring their founder and a 450-word secondary piece for a different outlet.

Week 3: Placement and Syndication

Primary placement: The flagship article was placed in a regional business publication with DA 58. Editorial team review, crediting the founder as expert author.

Secondary placement: The founder profile appeared in an industry association's content series.

News wire distribution: A branded press release (structured around the same core content angle) was distributed via a professional news wire, generating 34 pickups across regional news sites, aggregators, and business publications.

Directory additions: Three new business authority directories, with complete, standardised brand information.

Total new indexed citations by end of Week 3: 41

Week 4: Reporting and Verification

Every placement verified live and documented with URL, domain authority score, and indexation date. A white-label executive report produced for the client: 22 pages, covering all placements, Schema audit, entity footprint before/after, and recommendations for the next authority phase.

The 90-Day Results

We don't control what happens after a campaign ends โ€” we can only measure it. At the 90-day mark (60 days after campaign completion), here's what the data showed:

Knowledge Panel: Appeared at Day 58. Featured founder name, company description, service categories, and social links.

Branded search volume: +34% increase in branded searches (Google Search Console, comparing 30 days before vs 60โ€“90 days after)

AI search mentions: 4/6 AI tools now included the firm in relevant category + location queries. At Day 0: 0/6.

Editorial citations: 41 new citations indexed at campaign end. Two additional organic citations appeared by Day 90 โ€” publications that discovered the original placements and referenced them.

Client outcome: Founder reported two new inbound prospect inquiries in the 60 days after campaign completion, both citing "found you online" as the discovery method. One converted.

What This Demonstrates

A 30-day authority engagement doesn't transform a business overnight. But it does plant infrastructure that compounds.

Forty-one editorial citations is forty-one permanent data points in the web's authority infrastructure. A Knowledge Panel is a signal to every human and AI searcher that this is a real, verified, established entity. Named expert presence in indexed publications is a signal that doesn't expire.

The 90-day results reflect compounding in its early stages. At 12 months, the same client's data would show a different picture still โ€” and a significantly harder gap for any competitor to close.

This case study was prepared by the strategy team at BrandVoice Engine. Results are illustrative of typical campaign outcomes and may vary.
